In the XIX century, writing underwent a major evolution due to the invention of the metallic nib. New metals developed in Birmingham, England, brought the required flexibility and resistance to metallic nibs enabling them to be exported worldwide from 1835, thus replacing the quills and calames. Shortly after, in 185 and 1856 the German mark "Brause" and the French mark "Sergent-Major" pens were introduced. Due to these pens, the teaching of writing became democratic, this being a significant step forward. These metallic nibs are ideal for handwriting and scripting. This set includes a century wooden nib-holder and a Cito Fein nib.
