An Ordinary Tale About Women and Other Stories is a collection by Fatimah Busu, one of the most significant Malay women writers of the past century and a master of the short story form. Celebrated for her bold choice of subjects, distinctive use of language, and unique narrative style, Fatimah Busu's stories explore the tension between tradition and modernity, as well as the fragility of the human condition.

Translated from Malay by Pauline Fan, An Ordinary Tale gathers ten short stories that chart the development of Fatimah Busu's writing—from her early works in the 1960s and 70s, to the zenith of her creativity in the 1980s, and into her mature phase in the 1990s. This collection features both some of her most iconic stories and several lesser-known gems, each reflecting her singular voice and thematic concerns, now presented in English for the first time.

Join us at Lit Books@BV2 on April 12 at 3 p.m. for a discussion of An Ordinary Tale, featuring translator Pauline Fan in conversation with Shafiqa Nabeera.
